Festival of Sail

My weekend kicked off on Thursday, as I volunteered at the Festival of Sail (FOS) at Pier 3 in the City. I assisted both the tall ship Lynx and our State tall ship the Californian. It was very cool and a blast. I then worked another double on Friday for a girl out sick, then squeezed in a workout (I am determined to get back into shape!). Sat and Sun I spent racing at the 2nd half season opener on the Bay. It was crazy. Despite Saturday being sunny and beautiful, everything that could go wrong in terms of sailing did - aka we made mucho mucho mistake-o-s! We thought we were racing for last place and we ended up in 2nd in our division! Funny how that works. Sunday was much better even though they moved up our start time without any notice, well 4 minutes, and we didn't have the jib sail up yet as we attempted to cross the start line! Crazy wind, up to 28 knots, got totally soaked, wind, sun, and salt burned - but just on my face :( since the rest of my body was totally covered up by foul weather gear. However, we ended up having a much better race in terms of every one's performance - we didn't make so many mistakes but again due to our start, were not sure how we did. As it turns out, we won our division and came in 2nd overall in our start! Oh, then Brian and I jetted off to a TI Yacht club event, where he had to cook for 50 people and I had to bartend! It was a blast but we were pretty much on empty in terms of energy! We made some contacts and voila, Brian got a spot as crew on the tall ship Nina (replica of the Nina, Pinta, Santa Maria....). I could have too, except they left for Sacramento Monday morning for the week and I couldn't pull it off! So.... that meant after getting home on Sunday at 11:30 pm ish, we had to pack Brian (mind you everything we have is in the laundry currently) and I had to drive him to the dock (at aquatic park) at 4:30AM Monday morning! OMG!

...and so another week, another adventure begins!
Enjoy the pic's & Meow at ya later!

Sailing

Meow here. Sailing was great this weekend. Went out with a friend I made at a Latitude 38 party earlier this year. He has a 39' Cal sailboat, very smooth, very clean. He let me do most of the sailing this time which was great! We took off from the Saint Frances Marina (where his boat is berthed), and catching a bit of the Flood tide made it over to Encinal YC lickity split. With the wind in our favor, I sailed the boat all the way down the estuary. After a quick tour of his friend's boat and the club (and a beer of course!), we headed on home. However, the wind and weather shifted, so we had to turn on the motor right before Gas House cove, as we were not making any head ways against wind and current.

Overall, it was a highly successful and fun trip. I'll update you all next week with my sailing adventures! Oh, and don't miss all the Tall Ships in town for the festival this week. I'll be down at Pier 3 in the afternoon on Thursday, pulling a watch. Come check it out.

I'll try and post some pictures soon, until then, talk at you later. ~Meow
