News Flash – We have a ride to Australia!
During our travels around Europe (the first 30 days and all of Aug), we managed to arrange a boat ride from Plymouth, England to Australia. Once we arrived here, we met our new Captian, an Aussie man named Richard. We surveyed the boat, and disscussed plans. We all agreed that there were a few things left to do. Not knowing the English work ethic, we got stalled out. Things just take longer in England. Therefore, one week turned into 30 days later (and all of Sept.)! That is how long it has taken to ready the Christina II. However, unlike the last boat, this is definitely, 100% sailboat - yippee! She is a 65', steel hulled ketch. This boat is huge. Oh, and our aft cabin is schweet!
Our plans so far will be to sail across the English channel to Brest, France. Then to sail down the coasts of France, Spain, & Portugual, through Gibralter and into the Med. This will take us a while, and if all goes well, we leave Sunday morning with the tide, early of course - no surprise there - for Brest, France. Once there, we will hopefully pick up another crew member and wait for the weather window on Wednesday to sail down the infamous Bay of Biscayand the coast.
